Desai’s spectacular performance is now etched in Ranji Trophy history as the third best bowling figure recorded in the competition. The top spot is still his Anshul Kambojwho claimed all 10 wickets for Haryana AGAINST Kerala in November 2024. Moreover, in Mumbai Ankeet Chavan Has previously taken 9 wickets for just 23 runs against Punjab in December 2012, but now, Desai’s feat has added a new chapter to the record books.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Uttarakhand are expected to put up a strong performance. However, they were quickly overwhelmed by Gujarat’s formidable bowling attack. Uttarakhand were all out for just 111 runs, with Desai leading the attack and taking 9 wickets. in Gujarat Vishal Jaiswal also played a supporting role, contributing a wicket to ensure Uttarakhand’s early collapse.
Despite the attacks by the Gujarat bowlers, only one Uttarakhand batter put up a valiant fight. Shashwat Dangwalthe highest run-scorer for Uttarakhand, contributed 35 runs in 49 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. His innings was a rare bright spot in a poor performance for Uttarakhand, as he remained not out in Uttarakhand’s first innings. With the Gujarat bowlers dominating the first innings, the focus now shifted to Gujarat’s batting.
