Warriors, rockets, mavericks among suitors


The Miami Heat have an interesting decision to take around six-time NBA All-Star wing Jimmy Butler, which could generate some trade interest.

Butler, 35, could become a free agent this offseason if he opts out of his deal, and it’s unclear whether he projects as part of Miami’s franchise future.

According to ESPN Charania slapsButler and Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram are two of the top names to watch before the NBA trade deadline.

Charania reported that Miami is “open to hearing offers” for Butler and potentially “making a deal” for the right offer. He added that it became clear that Butler had expressed interest in three specific teams.

At this point, it appears Butler will opt out of his deal and become a free agent at the end of the season. But if he is traded, here are some teams Butler wants to play for this season.

Houston Rockets

Butler, who hails from nearby Houston, could make sense as a consolidation piece for the Rockets. Back in October, Rockets were mentioned by Mark Stein as a potential destination for Butler as well. It’s unclear how many players in Houston’s young core would be willing to part with, if any, for such a trade.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are reported to be has an interest in Butler As he was previously even traded to the Heat in 2019. Earlier this month, Hoopshype’s Michael Scotto added that “There is quiet discourse within the league” On whether the Rockets or Mavericks could emerge as suitors for Butler. But there are financial hurdles that could complicate that fit.

Golden State Warriors

Earlier this season, Scotto, the Warriors’were among the associated teams” To Butler in a potential trade. The Athletic’s Anthony Slater speculated that the Warriors will “Enter the conversation– For Butler in May and Sam Amick reported interest at Butler from Golden State in September.
