The Boston Red Sox finally landed their dream ace in a blockbuster deal to acquire Chicago White Sox lefty Garrett Crochet. Crochet comes to Boston as the return for a huge package of prospects. What’s next for the Red Sox?

Ideally for them, the Red Sox could add another starter, and FanSided’s Zachary Rotman feels this is a real possibility. Rotman recently listed Red Sox as top team to acquire Baltimore Orioles free agent Corbin Burnes. Jon Heyman of the New York Post projects Burnes to land a $210 million contractbut with Max Fried landing a $218 million deal, Burnes could be worth north of $250 million.

“The Red Sox finally got their ace in Crochet. Does that mean they have to stop though? Why can’t they draw another ace in Burnes? Is that realistic? Maybe not, but why is that? We know that the Red Sox have money to spend, given their $700 million offer for Juan Soto. They even threw out a pretty decent offer to Fried before he signed with the Yankees. “Why can’t the Red Sox pony up in throw with Burnes? By signing Burnes, they would form a trio that few teams can match in Burnes, Crochet and Tanner Houck – and that’s with solid arms like Brayan Bello and Kutter Crawford Rounding Out the Rotation Suddenly the Red Sox would go from having a questionable rotation to one of the best in the American League.

Boston certainly has the money for this kind of deal. The Red Sox left a $700 million deal on the table for superstar Juan Soto and have yet to spend anything in free agency.

The Red Sox have a few holes they could fill in the lineup, but adding Burnes should be the top priority.
