The New York Giants are preparing for another quarterback change as Drew Locke is out for Sunday’s match against Baltimore Ravens due to a heel injury. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed on Wednesday that Locke, who is currently out of practice and wearing a protective boot, will not be available. As a result Tommy DeVito will intervene as starting quarterback for this weekend’s game.
De Vito, 26, took over as a starter for the first time last month following the departure of Daniel Jonesdebuting against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, his performance left a lot to be desired as he failed to throw a touchdown and suffered a forearm injury that cost him his starting role after just one game. Locke then replaced him but struggled to make an impact in subsequent games against Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints.
Despite his poor performance, the Giants planned to stick with Lock as the starter if he was healthy. Daboll shared this earlier this week Locke had an MRI for an undisclosed injury, but will remain a starter if cleared to play. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported to X: “Drew Lock will start for the Giants against the Ravens if he’s healthy enough, Brian Daboll told reporters. Passes tests.“

In case of inaccessible lock, De Vito gets another chance to prove himself. Last weekend, he played just one snap in the Giants’ loss to the Saints, subbing for Locke at shortstop and drawing a standing ovation from the MetLife Stadium crowd. Now he has an opportunity to reclaim his role and impressed Dabol in Sunday’s match against Lamar Jackson and on Ravens.
The Giants are also preparing for veteran Tim Boyle to step in as the backup quarterback with Lock out injured. The team faces an uphill battle as they approach what could be their ninth straight loss. Their most recent defeat came in heartbreaking fashion against the Saints when a potential tying field goal by Graham Gano was blocked as time expired.
It’s been a tough season for the Giants, and Daboll’s decision to move quarterback reflects an ongoing struggle to find consistency. With DeVito once again taking the reins, fans will be watching closely to see if he can rise to the challenge and help turn things around for a team that is desperate for a win.
