The Boston Red Sox started their offseason with a bang for Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet. Boston sent four minor leaguers to Chicago in the deal and left the door wide open to swing another grand bargain.

FanSided’s Cody Williams believes the Red Sox have what it takes to acquire another superstar. Actually Williams suggested the Red Sox could land Toronto Blue Jays superstar first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. before the 2025 season begins.

“In addition to being division rivals with the Blue Jays, there is no team that matches Toronto better than the Boston Red Sox. You know what would quickly begin to turn the mood at Fenway Park after an early string of high-profile snubs in free agency? That make a deal with Guerrero to man the opposite corner from Rafael Devers,” Williams wrote. “For Toronto, it would also make sense, even if it’s dealing with a rival. The Red Sox have a treasure trove of prospects and young, proven players already in the majors — especially Wilyer Abreu — who could fill the Blue Jays’ need to start rebuilding a younger, cheaper core.”

For the Blue Jays, a trade makes more sense than many probably think. Toronto just watched Juan Soto spend his walk-on year in the Bronx before leaving New York without eyeing the highest bidder, which was $765 million. What makes the Blue Jays think Guerrero would be willing to stay in Toronto after this season?

Soto’s contract likely drove up the market for Guerrero, who is set to be the leading player in next year’s free agency class. Why would Toronto hang on to Guerrero if it could acquire a ton of prospects in return right now?

Boston would likely send a return of Triston Casas, Wilyer Abreu and several other talented prospects to acquire the first baseman. The Red Sox also have the money to re-sign Guerrero in free agency next winter, though letting him get there is an incredible risk.
