The Washington Capitals’ explosion into elite status has also garnered honors from the White House.

Chairman Donald Trump gave a nod to Capitals and future Hall of Fame forward Alex Ovechkin during a rally following his induction back into power during a rally at Capital One Arena, home of the Capitals, on Monday.

“I want to thank the owners of this arena, they are amazing,” Trump said.” They’re up here somewhere in one of those beautiful boxes. Their team is doing very well, and Ovechkin is a great player, right?”

The packed house applauded in response to his mention of the Capitals, who are currently leading NHL in points while Ovechkin chases the all-time scoring record.
