(NewsNation) — Within the next day, President Joe Biden‘s belongings will leave the White House as the Trumps settle back down.
President-elect Donald Trump will be consecrated for his second term as president on Monday, and former White House aide Chris Emery has a behind-the-scenes look at the “mass bedlam” behind a White House flip.
Emery told NewsNation that the process of moving presidents in and out of the White House “is almost like Cirque du Soleil,” with all 97 staff members working together.
“Some people bring in clothes. Some people bring in furniture. You have electricians doing wiring. You have engineers setting things up. Everyone works together,” Emery said.
It’s future first ladies who plan the move – and it doesn’t always go as planned, Emery said.
“I remember President Clinton coming right up to me and saying, where’s his tuxedo? He had a constituent to go to, and so there’s a mad search throughout the House to find what happened,” Emery recalled. “His tuxedo was finally found in a closet on the third floor like half an hour before he was ready to go.”
The first family knows what to expect this time, but Emery said it will still be a heavy lift before their homecoming is complete.
