Michael Jordan sells Chicago mansion after 12 years on the market, but NBA legend accepts humiliating price cut


After being on the market for over a decade, Michael Jordanthe 32,000-square-foot mansion in Highland Park, Illinois it finally sold at a drastically reduced price.

As first reported by Bloombergthe property closed for $9.5 million after originally being listed for $29 million. That marks a 67 percent drop for the property in Chicago’s northern lakefront suburbs Michigan.

Settlement reports first appeared in September.

The mansion’s amenities include nine bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, a cigar room, a library, an indoor gym, a round infinity pool, a basketball court, a tennis court and an iconic #23 front door.

Jordan lived mostly in his hometown North Carolina in retirement, although it showed spending the summer with his wife, Cuban-American model Yvette Prieto, aboard a yacht in the Mediterranean.

Jordan ended his 13-year reign as owner of the Hornets by turning over his majority stake in the franchise to a group led by Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin in August 2023.

The sale of Schnall and Plotkin is said to be worth a staggering $3 billion, marking a whopping profit for the 61-year-old considering he shelled out $275 million to buy the team in 2010.

Jordan remains a minority owner of the Hornets.

And after cashing in on his majority stake in Charlotte, Jordan made the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans in the US.

His net worth is now believed to have crossed the $3 billion mark, making him the first athlete to be inducted into Forbes’ exclusive club.

Jordan remains the richest athlete in history after combining his iconic NBA career with some of the biggest commercial deals off the court.

The most famous of these brand partnerships is, of course, with Nike, with whom he partners on the Jordan brand.

The former Chicago Bulls superstar’s latest annual check from Nike is reportedly worth around $260 million.

Two months ago, Jordan gave $70 million for a luxury private jet that pays tribute to his relationship with Nike.

Not long after spent $2 million on a one-of-a-kind Italian sports carJordan splashed even more cash on a stunning new jet, complete with a $500,000 custom paint job.

The sixfold NBA the champion aircraft is a Gulfstream 650ER, which holds the record for the “farthest fastest flight in business aviation history,” according to his website.

He opted for a silver-and-black theme after spending six figures on his own custom paint job, which resembles a pair of his elephant-print Air Jordan sneakers.

Every passenger is treated to the kind of luxury that MJ — who has a net worth of $3.5 billion — enjoys on a regular basis, with giant beige leather seats lining every window.

The aircraft has a separate space for mealtimes, along with a fully stocked LED-decorated bar that folds out of the furniture.

Jordan can also put his head down when he feels tired during a long journey in a luxurious private bedroom.
