Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke shared his thoughts on who he believes holds the title of the best fast bowler in all three formats of the game. In a recent chat, Clarke gave his opinion on what makes a fast bowler, especially when playing in different formats like Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and T20Is.
Clarke, after reflecting on a series of fast bowling performances, named India’s Jasprit Bumrah as the best fast bowler he has seen in all formats. Clarke praised Bumrah’s ability to perform consistently well in all conditions, something that, in his opinion, sets him apart from other great fast bowlers.
The former Australian captain went on to explain that Bumrah’s incredible versatility in different conditions and forms, coupled with his match-winning abilities, made him unique. Clarke emphasized that Bumrah’s prowess across formats – be it his lethal yorkers in T20s or his ability to play long spells in Tests – is what makes him a unique nature.
“The thing I think about Bumrah, after the series and I sit and think about his performances, I honestly think he is the best fast bowler in all the three formats,” Clarke told ESPN’s Around The Wicket.
Clarke acknowledged the huge impact of legendary fast bowlers in past seasons, citing the likes of Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath. However, he pointed out that these legends did not get a chance to play T20 cricket, which is an important part of the game today. While their contributions are immense, Clarke believes Bumrah’s ability to excel in all three formats makes him unique.
“I know a lot of great fast bowlers, Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath, haven’t played T20 cricket, so I’m not talking about those guys, but about anyone who has played all three formats, I think he might be the best ever. Actually he is good in any conditions, that is what makes him great; any conditions, any format, this guy is a freak,” added Clarke.
