Larry Fitzgerald Sr. told Randy Moss he was praying for him, days after it sparked a backlash seemingly incorrectly claiming that the Hall of Famer has a liver cancer.
Fitzgerald Sr., the father of former Cardinals star Larry Jr., appeared to break the news Tuesday when he said Moss — who recently announced a “personal health challenge” without giving further details – was battling cancer.
Thaddeus Moss – Randy’s son – quickly took to social media to attack Fitzgerald, saying: “This is disgusting. You have no right to try to make private things public in the name of engagement. I don’t believe my dad is talking to you, so check your fucking sources.
And Thaddeus later said that his father did not have liver cancer in response to Brett Favre sending him his best wishes.
Fitzgerald Sr has now issued a brief statement to DailyMail.Com about the outrage, saying: “I have no comment other than I know Randy, I love Randy and I pray for Randy.”
Fitzgerald Sr. claims to be a “Twin Cities sports media giant” who works as a “writer, producer, talk show host and commentator.”

Thaddeus Moss, Randy’s son, angrily attacked Fitzgerald Sr. and later denied the cancer claims
His website bio says he was sports editor and columnist for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, “one of the strongest and oldest African American news magazines in the Midwest” for 35 years.
But without official confirmation, Fitzgerald Sr.’s post sparked a firestorm Tuesday night, with many NFL fans pointing out that Moss had kept the details of his health battle under wraps.
“Brett, the support is appreciated, really,” Thaddeus said in response to Favre reacting to claims that Moss has cancer. “That’s not true.” My father will address the world when he is ready.
Even Fitzgerald Sr.’s own son urged him not to “speculate” on Moss’ health.
“Dad, I think it’s best to respect his privacy on this matter,” Larry Jr. wrote. “If he feels ready to share more about his health, he will. In the meantime, let’s focus on sending him positive energy, prayers and support instead of speculating.”
Moss has resigned from his duties with Sunday’s NFL Countdown after first causing concern two weeks ago when his eyes appeared yellow-tinged during his regular weekly appearance.
And last week, Moss began the show with an explanation he was struggling with a health condition and that he would wear sunglasses while presenting the show.
“I just want to let the viewers know that me and my wife, me and my family are struggling with something internally. I have great doctors around me,” Moss said.

Larry Fitzgerald Jr. even told his father to respect the Moss family’s privacy
“I couldn’t miss the show, I wanted to be here with you guys, it feels great. But if you all see me with these Michigan reversible glasses I wear, no disrespect.
And in a video posted to Instagram, Moss said: ‘Throughout the holiday week, your boy has been struggling with something inside.
“I’m just asking all the prayer warriors to bless me and my family in these difficult times.
“People were asking about my eyes last week. If you see them on Sunday NFL Countdown (puts on glasses), Adam Schefter calls them the Michigan Reversible Goggles they sent over from Ohio last night.
“Your boy will survive it. I have a great team of doctors and a great family around me.
“Get all the checkups, get the blood work and we’ll deal with it.”
Moss, 47, is considered one of the best wide receivers in NFL history.
He is best known for his time with the Vikings, but has also played for the Raiders, Patriots, Titans and 49ers.
He holds the NFL record for touchdowns in a season with 23. He has been with ESPN since 2016.
