A cybersecurity attack is preventing some customers from getting Krispy Kreme donuts, the company announced Wednesday.
The chain said in a regulatory filing late last month that it detected “unauthorized activity in a portion” of its technology that is still causing “some operational disruptions,” particularly its online ordering function for parts of the United States.
Krispy Kreme said the hack will likely hurt it due to the disruption of online orders, lost revenue from cybersecurity experts and the cost of restoring its systems.
Federal law enforcement has been notified of the hack and “do not yet know the scope, nature and impact of the incident,” Krispy Kreme said.
400 U.S. locations are open for in-person ordering and delivery to Krispy Kreme partners such as grocery stores and nearly 2,000. McDonald’s restaurants have no effect.
In addition to expanding its partnership with McDonald’s this year, Krispy Kreme recently announced that it has sold a majority stake in the Insomnia Cookies brand to private equity firms as a focus on delivering fresh donuts.
Krispy Kreme (I have) was made public the second time in 2021. Sales were down about 1% in premarket trading and are down 30% for the year.
