Chris Paul got the coolest gift after breaking Jason Kidd’s assist record

San Antonio Spurs point guard Chris Paul made history with a pass to Victor Wembanyama on Sunday night.

The 12-time NBA All-Star recorded an assist per possession, moving him past Jason Kidd for No. 2 on the NBA’s all-time assist leader list. With that dime, Paul now trails only John Stockton for the most assists in league history.

Paul recorded 12,099 assists during his NBA career and is one of only seven players to ever reach the 10,000-assist mark. Others besides Stockton, Paul and Kidd include: LeBron James, Steve Nash, Mark Jackson and Magic Johnson.

For this achievement, Paul received a basketball with the name of every player he ever assisted.

It’s a gift perfectly suited for someone like Paul, who has helped elevate the game of his NBA teammates for nearly two decades.

While it’s highly unlikely that CP3 will ever overtake Stockton as the NBA’s all-time leader in assists, the feat is also remarkable, and he deserves a celebration like the one he got.
