President-elect Donald Trump on Monday he said he would “definitely consider” pardoning the New York mayor Eric Adams.
“I think he was treated pretty unfairly,” the incoming Republican president said of the Democratic mayor. He pleaded not guilty to the federal corruption charges.
Speaking to reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort home in Florida, Trump warned that he had not seen “the gravity of it all,” suggesting he had not looked closely at the evidence against Adams.
But he played down the charges against the mayor, suggesting Adams was being accused of accepting an upgrade on an international flight.
Adams, 64, was accused in September of accepting gifts from wealthy foreign businessmen over nearly a decade, including luxury trips. He was also charged with conspiracy related to illegal contributions to the 2021 mayoral race.
Trump also suggested that politics could play a role in the impeachment.
Adams “basically went against what was going on incoming migrants” and “made some pretty strong statements,” Trump said.
“I said, ‘You know what? He’s going to be impeached soon,'” Trump said, adding that he made the comment “from the heart.”
“And a few months later, he was impeached,” Trump said. “So yeah, I’d definitely check it out” apology.
Adams has also claimed this has targeted For his criticism of the immigration policies of the Biden administration.
On a recent Sunday, Adams said “is not communicating with the president about a pardon.”
Statements made at the Monday morning press conference by Trump and Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son announced the engagement Invest 100 billion dollars in the US for the next four years.
