Kyle Shanahan is making his opinion on the Deebo Samuel protest very loud and clear on social media

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed Deebo Samuelrecent frustration with the team’s offense, stressing that such emotions are understandable rather than a team distraction. This comes after Samuel shared a cryptic post on social media expressing his displeasure at his role in the crime.

The post that read, “Not struggling at all, just not getting the ball!!!!!!!” accompanied by a shrug emoticon, sparked discussions about his production and involvement in the 49ers’ game plan, especially among quarterbacks Brock Purdythe performance of and the team struggling with injuries.

Community feedback on the post indicated that Samuel was actively involved in the crime. A note read, “Deebo is currently third on the 49ers in targets and is currently receiving more touches per game than (any) non-RB player. Deebo also leads the team in sacks this season.” Despite his involvement, Samuel’s numbers have been less explosive than in previous seasons.

With 553 receiving yards on 40 catches and 92 rushing yards on 32 carries, he scored two touchdowns this season. That contrasts with his stellar performance in 2022, when he totaled 1,770 yards and 14 touchdowns, earning him three years, $73.5 million contract extension.

Shanahan assures team unity

Shanahan acknowledged Samuel’s frustration but assured him there was no ongoing tension. “Deebo and I talk every day, so I understand Deebo saying thatShanahan said.Deebo wants to help us and the only way he can help us is to get more of the ball. And we would like to provide it more. And we will continue to work in this regard.”

He also noted that while social media can amplify such situations, it hasn’t caused any disruption to the team. “We will always be happy for things to stay in the house. That’s probably why I don’t get involved in social mediaShanahan added.Is it a distraction in our building? no.”

Samuel currently ranks third on the team in touchdowns with an average of 6.0 per game, leading all non-running backs. however he also leads the 49ers in sacks this seasontied for the sixth most sacks in the NFL with five. Despite these challenges, Shanahan and the team remain committed to finding ways to better utilize Samuel’s talents.

When asked about his post during a press conference, Samuel said simply: “Read what you read. I was disappointed, for sure.” The 49ers continue to prepare for their upcoming NFC West matchup against Los Angeles Rams.
