Trump cuts DEI regulations across the federal government

(NewsNation) — President Trump has cut everyone diversity, equality and inclusion programs across the federal government, giving agencies 60 days to cut all DEI positions and proclaiming that there are only two genders.

All federal departments and agencies have been instructed on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. to close all offices focused solely on DEI initiatives and programs. All DEI officials will be placed on paid leave.

In several announcements signed Monday, Trump rescinded several Biden-era initiatives, saying they were “illegal and immoral discriminatory programs” in government.

“This week, I will also end the government’s policy of attempting to socially engineer race and gender in every aspect of public and private light; we will create a society that is colorblind and merit-based,” Trump said during his inauguration. today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the US government that there are only two sexes, male and female.”

The order requests the Office of Management and Budget and the Office of Personnel Management to coordinate with agencies to end what it considers to be “all discriminatory programs” at the agencies.

OPM sent a memo Tuesday asking all agencies to “send a notice to all employees in DEIA offices that they will be placed on paid administrative leave effective immediately as the agency takes steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices and programs.”

Agencies are also being asked to send a notice to all employees “informing them of the closure and asking employees if they know of any efforts to hide these programs by using coded or imprecise language,” to remove all websites, social media accounts , operated by DEI offices, withdraw any “final or pending documents, directives, orders, materials and equity plans” and cancel all DEI-related training.

By this Thursday, agencies are being asked to report what steps they are taking to implement those orders. By January 31, they must submit a written layoff plan for employees working in DEI offices.

The US government is the largest employer in the country, with 3 million workers, and the new marching orders appear to be in line with a similar shift away from DEI initiatives in the private sector.

Walmart, Meta and McDonalds have all reportedly backed down on some aspects of DEI.

A Trump official said Monday that “private companies should wait and see … we have more actions coming very soon.”

Trump has also caused concern among LGBTQ+ Americans after declaring that the government would only recognize two genders, male and female, and these would correlate with the gender assigned at birth.

His order directs agencies to enforce laws to protect men and women as biologically distinct sexes and not enforce laws as if sex includes gender identity. It would also direct the secretaries of state and Homeland Security to ensure that official government documents such as passports and visas reflect categories of “male” and “female.”

It will also prevent agencies from promoting the concept of gender reassignment, and agencies will only list “male” or “female” when asking about sex.

The order also intends to stop federal funds from promoting gender identity.
