President-elect Trump makes the rounds in Washington on Sunday ahead of a victory rally at the Capital One Area just before Inauguration Day.
Trump arrived in the nation’s capital over the weekend, preparing to take on a second term in the White House as the Republican trifecta takes shape.
Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier earlier Sunday. He will hold a rally tonight, where the list of guest speakers includes Megyn Kelly and Elon Musk.
Also on Sunday, TikTok said it was “in progress” restoring service in the US hours after the popular video sharing platform went dark.
And in the Middle East, the cease-fire agreement reached between Israel and Hamas came into force on Sunday with the release of hostages who have been held in the Gaza Strip for more than a year. The deal includes three phases including an initial six-week break in matches.
Several lawmakers also took to Sunday’s political newscasts, including Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who told NewsNation’s “The Hill Sunday” that Trump is entering the White House as a “second Donald Trump” from the man who took office eight years ago.
Additionally, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he “will not commit” to sending California disaster aid without conditions, even though Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) insists his state needs for that for emergency fire assistance. He also promised that there will be “hell to pay” if Hamas breaks the ceasefire agreement recently reached with Israel.
