“If he doesn’t like anyone…”: Robin Uthappa reveals Virat Kohli’s personal bias on Ambati Rayudu’s 2019 World Cup loss

In the world of cricket, team dynamics and selection processes often generate intense discussions and controversies. One such incident that has resurfaced is the shocking involvement of Share Rayudu from IndiaThe 2019 ODI World Cup squad.

Former cricketer Robin Uthappa changed this debate, suggesting that the decision was influenced by Virat KohliHis personal preferences are purely for cricketing reasons. This revelation not only sheds light on the complexity of team selection but also raises questions about leadership styles in sports.

The controversial dismissal of Ambati Rayudu

Rayudu, who was a reliable performer heading into the World Cup, was unexpectedly dropped from the final squad before the tournament began. He had featured in ten ODIs before the World Cup, which made his inclusion all the more puzzling. Uthappa stated that Kohli’s personal feelings towards the players played an important role in the selection decisions, indicating that if Kohli did not favor a player, they were likely to be dropped from the team.

” If he (Virat Kohli) doesn’t like anybody, he doesn’t feel good about somebody, then he cuts them. (Ambati) Rayudu is the prime example,” Uthappa said in an interview to Lallantop, expressing his dissatisfaction with how Rayudu was treated at such a crucial stage in his career.

Virat Kohli has left a player in limbo

Uthappa’s comments highlight a wider issue within team sports: the emotional toll on players left on the brink of selection only to be dropped at the last minute. Rayudu is gearing up for the World Cup, with his equipment and kit ready at home, believing that he will represent India on cricket’s biggest stage.

Uthappa lamented this situation, adding, “You feel terrible. Everyone has preferences, I agree but you can’t close the door on a player after taking him to the top. He has World Cup clothes, World Cup kit bag, everything is in his house. A player thinks he is going to the World Cup. But you closed the door on him.”

Repercussions beyond choice

The fallout from Rayudu’s exclusion went beyond a player’s frustration. This sparked a widespread debate about selection policies and transparency within the Indian cricketing system. After his dismissal, Rayudu expressed his disappointment publicly and even raised issues with the chief selector. MSK Prasad. Prasad maintained that the choices were made collectively but acknowledged that Kohli had an input in these decisions.

Moreover, Uthappa’s comments also touched on another controversial topic: how Kohli treats the players Yuvraj Singh affecting their careers. Uthappa claimed that Kohli’s influence contributed to Yuvraj’s premature exit from international cricket after his battle with cancer, suggesting a pattern of favoritism that undermined team morale and unity.
