Looks like the Australian hangover is over Jasprit Bumrah did not end even after the Border-Gavaskar action between the two countries reached its climax in Sydney. Analysts and broadcasters in Australia still cannot get over the terror that Indian pace maestro Bumrah has struck in the hearts of Aussie batters and those who watch him.
A rather hilarious incident occurred at Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 which shows that Bumrah’s shadows are still terrorizing the Aussies. During the BBL match between Heat in Brisbane and Sydney Thunder at The Gabba, an unconventional ball from Lockie Ferguson caught the Heat batters by surprise.
However, Australian former cricketer Mark Waugh who was on the commentary panel could not let go of the delivery easily and he immediately pointed out the similarity in Ferguson’s run-up limp before bowling the delivery to Bumrah’s run-up.
Ferguson has managed to surprise the batters in the BBL this season with this move by slowing down the run-up and outsmarting the batters as they mis-anticipate the speed of the incoming delivery. Ferguson capped off a marquee spell as the Thunder took on the Heat in the 25th clash of the season. He also made highlights in the same match by bowling a stunning delivery to get the bails Jack Wood‘s off-stump to send the Heat opener back to the pavilion for just 2 runs.
“I thought it was Jasprit Bumrah in the middle of the run up!”

The 33-year-old pacer has been one of the highlights of the Thunders’ pace attack this season with 8 wickets in 6 matches so far. More importantly, Ferguson has managed to maintain his economy rate at a remarkable 7.16 making him one of the most efficient bowlers of the season so far. Ferguson also previously appeared on Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for teams like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The New Zealand international plays for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) last season. Before the IPL auction the franchise decided to let him go.
